IC Information:
Name: Known as Kurogane in his original canon. Reincarnated name is Youou Timothy Harrison-Suwa.
Canon: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles
Age: Canon age undetermined but around 25, reincarnated age is 26.
Preincarnation Appearance: Here and here
Any differences: His eyes has a maroon colour instead of red, and his pupils are round rather than slit shaped. He has no artificial left arm and is also without a number of scars that the preincarnated Kurogane must have obtained fighting, most noticebly a scar on both the back and palm of his left hand.
Preincarnated History: Kurogane’s father was the lord of Suwa, a province in the country of Nihon, and his mother was a Miko, or priestess. Together they did not only rule the province but also served as its protectors against the demons and monsters trying to access the land, his father by the use of his sword and his mother by keeping up a kekkai (protective shield) around the province to keep the monsters out. His childhood was a happy one but as he became a teenager his mother’s health began to seriously deteriorate and she was unable to keep the kekkai as efficient as before. As a result more monsters are able to get inside making Kurogane’s father even more busy fighting them.
Kurogane, who has been trained by his father since he was very young, also helps when he can and trains very hard to become stronger so that he can help protect the country. Not only to save the people there but also to ease his mother’s burden so that she can relax more.
Then Kurogane’s father has to bring out the family sword Ginryū to fight some particularly vicious monsters and leaves Kurogane to protect his mother. Kurogane keeps guard outside of his mother’s door and hears her collapse inside. Rushing in he sees a dimensional rift in the wall, an arm and a sword. That has pierced his mother’s chest. The person, Fei Wang Reed who will be referred to as the big bad, disappears before he can get to them. He does his best to still the blood flow but his mother dies in his arms.
With his mother’s death the kekkai disappears and monsters invade the country, one of them breaking through the roof where Kurogane and his mother’s body is and holding in its beak the arm and sword of Kurogane’s father. The sword falls to the floor as the monster eats the arm.
Quite understandably Kurogane snaps and, picking up his father’s sword, goes on a rampage killing every monster there.
Hours later the Empress, Amaterasu, arrives with her army, due to a dream her younger sister Tomoyo has had, and finds almost all monsters slain and a very crazy Kurogane holding on to his mother’s corpse. Amaterasu approaches Kurogane but out of his mind he attacks her. She then sends her ninjas to overpower him but he kills them. Realizing that he is too far gone Amaterasu prepares to personally deal with him but is stopped by her sister. Tomoyo then nails Kurogane’s hand to a wall and closes his mother eyes, telling him to let her sleep. This brings Kurogane back to his senses and he can finally grieve.
He is taken in by Tomoyo and asks that his father’s sword is to be buried with his mother since there is no body. Tomoyo agrees but says that she will have an identical sword made for him which will carry the same name.
After several years in Tomoyo’s service she, forcefully and against his will, sends him away to Yuuko in order for him to learn true strength. She also puts a spell/curse on him and tells him that if he kills anyone his strength will lessen because of it.
His wish to Yuuko is to return home and the price for this is the copy of his father’s sword Tomoyo gave him. She sends him along with the Syaoran, Sakura and Fai together with Mokona to travel through different dimensions until he finds his home again.
Important points during their travels:
While in the country of Outo he begins training Syaoran in sword-fighting, beginning with teaching him how to sense the auras of both living things and objects. He’s a very stern and ruthless teacher but it seems to work out fine. This sparks the beginning of a mentorship which continues even after they leave for other worlds.
He and Fai become separated from the kids and Mokona in Shara and when they are transported from there to Yama they arrive six months before the others leaving them unable to communicate with each other. Luckily Kurogane’s language was close enough to that of the people of Yama while Fai had to play mute.
In Piffle he meets that world’s version of his princess Tomoyo which affects his rather deeply. Finding out that the princess had communicated with this Tomoyo through her dreams he tells her to inform the princess that he’s definitely going to return to Nihon.
In LeCourt, a land of magic, Syaoran manages to see Kurogane’s past by accident due to a magical book. Kurogane tells him not to carry the burden of his past on his shoulders. During their time there he also notices certain strange behaviours in Syaoran, something that has been happening very sparingly since Yasha/Yama.
After LeCourt they arrive in Tokyo where a lot of things happen. The most important parts are the arrival of “Syaoran”,who has been kept captive by the big bad, from whom it turns out the Syaoran they have been traveling with has been cloned. His arrival unfortunately makes the close lose his heart, which had been given too him by “Syaoran” with his eye through which “Syaoran” have been watching the groups travels. Having become not much more than a robot Syaoran attacks Fai and eats his eye to gain his magic. He’s about to eat the second one as well when Kurogane shows up and stops him.
Then Fai is dying from his injuries, and seems rather fine with that, making Kurogane make a deal with Yuuko to keep him alive. The way of doing so is by turning him into a vampire and since this is Kurogane’s wish and not Fai’s, Kurogane must take on the responsibility for his life by being the only one Fai can feed from. Realizing that Kurogane cares enough about him to do this Fai does his best to distance himself and everything becomes horrible and sad.
There is a time jump and then the group, now including “Syaoran” instead of the clone, are in Infinity which ends with Fai killing Sakura because of a curse placed on him and then trying to kill himself. Kurogane stops him. To get Sakura back they have to travel to Fai’s world Celes.
In Celes they encounter Fai’s father figure Ashura who shows them the horrible past of their friend, including the fact that Fai has been the pawn of the big bad all this time in order to bring his dead twin back to life, whom Fai thinks he has killed.
Fai, convinced that Kurogane is going to kill him now attacks him as a defence but Kurogane, who really doesn’t appreciate this, overpowers him, pushes his face into the snow and tells him, again, that the past doesn’t matter. Also, some of the things they have been shown makes no sense.
More things go down and everything ends with Kurogane killing Ashura, protected by the spell Tomoyo put on him. This causes the world to implode, centered around Fai’s magic, and in order to save him Kurogane cuts off his arm which has some of Fai’s magic in it. They are then transported to Nihon, due to a wish made by Tomoyo.
In Nihon Fai gives up the rest of his magic to give Kurogane a mechanical arm. He also receives his father’s sword which Tomoyo had not buried together with his mother as he had asked. He swears loyalty to her, again, and we find out that his true name is not Kurogane but Youou. They then travel to Clow, Sakura and Syaoran’s home world in order to finally fight the big bad.
By this time things become even more confusing but in the end they manage to defeat him, Kurogane delivering the final blow. As a result of certain events and decisions made “Syoaran” has to keep on traveling, even thought he will be able to return to Clow and Sakura regularly and both Kurogane and Fai decide to travel with him.
Reincarnated History
Youou was born in the US from an English father and a Japanese mother, and have been raised with influence from all three cultures. Both his parents are pretty well off and they're a pretty close family. He has tree younger sisters who are all very much capable of bossing him around. He got into quite a bit of trouble, most notable in school, while growing up because of his uncontrollable temper. While it got better as he got older it was still a bit of a problem while he was in high school.
At 17, right after high school, he joined the military with his parents consent, and went into the air force. He was there for six years and while he's not in active duty anymore he's still in IRR which means he could get called in though chances are rather slim. After the military his parents, and especially his father, hoped that he would join the family business but instead he opted on becoming a mechanic, mainly focusing on aircraft. He used part of his inheritance to set up a small garage, which is doing pretty good, and he's currently studying part-time on evenings and weekends.
First Echo:
His first Echo happened during one of his mother's charity events when he was talking with some of her Japanese associates. While he can speak everyday japanese well enough he still struggles a bit on the more technical aspects. He was searching for a particular phrase that was not in his vocabulary and instead of the correct one he found another phrase, which turned out to more like a very old combination of japanese and chinese but which meaning was exactly what he had been searching for. Leaving him with a string of numbers and the knowledge of a language he'd never spoken before.
Preincarnation Personality:
Kurogane is generally rather grumpy and it’s rare to see him smile, at least outside of battle. For most of his life his sole purpose has been to become stronger and he is willing to do almost everything to achieve this. While this has had the result of Kurogane not really caring who he fights or in what shape his opponent might be afterwards the need itself stems from a desire to be able to protect the people he cares about. Things have just gotten a bit muddled on the way.
During his travels, and especially with what happens between him and Fai after the events in Tokyo he has slowly come to the realization that pure brute strength alone is not enough to protect and some of his blood-thirst has calmed down. He still enjoys a good battle and testing his strength though and probably always will.
He has a very short temper, and is especially enraged by Fai and Mokona’s teasing. When angered he is usually very quick to take to some kind of action, either by yelling or by chasing the object of his annoyance around with his sword while threatening them with bodily harm. He never seems to actually do anything to harm them. There is a distinct difference though between this kind of short temper and when he actually seriously gets angry. That is a more calm but completely murderous kind of anger and usually ends with someone getting hurt.
He cares much more about people than he at first realizes. In the beginning of his travels he very clearly states that he will have nothing to do with Syaoran’s mission, since it has nothing to do with him. He will just just stick around until he has reached his own world, but it doesn’t take him long to change his mind. While he, in the beginning, claims that this is only because that will allow him to reach his goal it doesn’t take very long before he becomes very personally invested in the well fare of his travel companions. And while he grumbles about the claims about him becoming the two children’s “daddy” he has no real problem with filling the role in action, if not in words.
But that is one of very few blind spots, other than that he is extraordinary honest, and that includes himself. He’s not one to shy away from the truth, he meets it head on and if it’s not to his liking he’ll beat the shit out of it until it is. He’s also very good at reading people. Fai has spent most of his life building up a perfect mask and he sees through it in a world to two. And this is not only limited to Fai but seemingly anyone he decides to actually focus on.
He doesn’t have much patience and especially not with unnecessary things like politeness. He would do anything to protect his princess Tomoyo - even lay down his own life, which is not something he does lightly - but that doesn’t mean that he will polite to her. He rarely calls anyone by name but while he tends to use titles instead it’s really not in a polite kind of way. At all.
As a side note it should be pointed out thought that not all of it is as impolite as it sounds. Because even when he begins to care about people he does not start calling them by name. But then his father used to call him “kid” just like he calls Syaoran, and while he had no intention to take on the father role in the beginning you can definitely read it in later on.
He has a very straightforward and simple view of life. There are enemies and... well... not enemies. He’s a great believer in the truth and in doing what you set out to do and absolutely hates liars and weaklings. Especially if he knows that they could be more than they’re settling for.
If he commits to something there is nothing that can stop him from doing it. And this goes for most things in his life. He’s extremely, and in some cases even fanatically, loyal to the people he decides to commit to. But again, this does not mean that he will listen to them or do what they wants. He will do what he thinks it’s best for them no matter what they say or think about it.
Even when he’s loosened up he tends to be rather aloof and aggressive. He will not get involved in other people’s problems unless he has reason to and if there is a chance of a fight, he will probably take it. Nothing will stop him enjoying the heat of battle. He’s also very arrogant about his abilities, and there is no doubt in his mind that he will be able to beat any opponent he takes on.
And he really does love his battle. It’s almost the only time you see him have any sort of expression other than a scowl. When he’s fighting, and especially if the fight is ‘good’, there’s a wide grin on his face and if there is too much peace and quiet during the travels he grows visibly tetchy and even more easily annoyed than usual.
Though he’s not very good at being fussed at and he tends to ignore his own pain and injuries unless they are actually life-threatening.
Any differences:
While his temper still runs on a very short fuse it blows over much quicker and he also lacks the deeply rooted anger that his preincarnated version has. He's also a lot more relaxed, even with his training, partly since he hasn't been working as an overzealous bodyguard for the last few years. He also has a more expressed sense of humor and both smiles and laughs a lot more.
He has a much easier time talking pleasure in other things than fighting, in fact - even with his short temper and his tendency to get into fights when he was younger - he doesn't really like fighting that much. He'll do it if he feels he has to but other than that he's much more likely to try and resolve the situation by peaceful means.
While he's still pretty goal oriented they tend to be a bit more concrete than 'becoming the strongest there is' and also a bit easier to obtain leading to him being a lot more content with his life, something that his preincarnation doesn't achieve in a very long time.
He is in also in much better contact with all of his emotions and is pretty comfortable in expressing them. He's also much more intellectually inclined. While never stupid, his preincarnation wasn't very much into the more book related parts of learning and experience, preferring to get out there and do stuff, while Youou is a pretty good student and genuinely interested in his studies.
Abilities:
He's a really good sword fighter, and even when accounting for magic there are very few people in his canon that can match him. He also has some kind of spiritual power that he uses when he fights, since most people can't level entire buildings with one swing of their sword, no matter how skilled they are. He even has special, named, techniques where he specifically uses this power.
He can sense auras, both of living things and of inanimate object, and can also differentiate auras of different people.
He's very good at reading people, when he bothers to try, and can see through his companions' lies and masks with disturbing ease.
He is also able to handle pain like nothing else. Basically he can get stabbed through the stomach with a giant icicle and still be able to cut off his own arm without even flinching at the pain.
Roleplay Sample – Third Person:
"You're really going to do this, aren't you? No matter what we say."
The voice comes from behind Youou but he doesn't have to turn around to know who it it. Alice, the middle of his three younger sisters. He's not surprised that she's the one who's come to find him after he'd stormed out to get some air, they'd always been thick as thieves growing up and even though that was years ago, not much had changed. He sighs, feeling the tension and anger begin to seep out of his body, leaving him tired and worn.
"Yeah, I am." He turns to face her. "Don't you think I've already thought it through? This isn't just some whim, okay. I think this might be what I really want to do."
"You think?"
He shrugs, "Can't be sure until I try it, can I? But it feels right, more right than what father wants me to do." He knows his father wants him to one day take over the family business, and as much as he hates to disappoint him that's not what Youou wants right now. It's possible that one day he'll be ready for it, and he's going to do his best to be prepared for it when it happens, but that day is still very far off. Of course, his father hadn't really seen it that way and, as always when the two of them disagreed about something both found important, sparks had flown and tempers had flared. In the end Youou had stormed out before the anger took over completely. His temper was better now, less explosive than it had been in his teenage years, but somehow his father always managed to bring it out again. He supposed they were too alike in some ways to ever get along smoothly no matter how much they cared for each other.
Alice sighs behind him and places a hand on his arm, squeezing gently. "You know, he's only doing this because he thinks it's best for you. And you're too damn alike for that to ever go over well." He lets out a huff of laughter and leans into her touch a little bit. As much as he'd like to he can't really deny that when it comes to being stubborn, he's definitely his father's son. Which is probably why they always clashed more with each other than anyone else in their family, always convinced that their way was best and both equally unwilling to back down. She squeezed his arm again. "He'll come around… eventually."
"Yeah I know." The anger is all gone now and there's a smile in his voice that matches the one on his lips. He turns his head to look at her. "Hey. I'm okay. I'll come back in, in a second. You go on ahead."
She takes a step forward and looped her arm around his, leaning into him. "I think I'll stay a while too." His smile widens and he places a soft kiss on the top of her head. They spend the next few minutes in comfortable silence.
Roleplay Sample - Network:
[ Youou sits and stares at the blank paper for a moment before picking up his pen and writing down the string of numbers that had been lurking in the back of his head the past months. He still couldn't quite believe he was doing this, the mere idea was stupid and impossible and, quite frankly, insane. And still... he made a frustrated sound and started to write. ]
So. This guy I met the other night said to try this, because apparently this string of numbers I have in my head means that I'll be able to access some kind of " secret network". [ He shakes his head, but keeps writing. ] Yeah, I can't believe I'm actually doing this either. I mean, what's more likely; that he's right, or that he's delusional and all I'm doing is making myself look like a complete and utter fool? And yet here I am, doing it.
[ He pauses, and considers leaving it at that. After all, there's really no need to keep going since there's no one actually reading it anyway. But if there's no one reading it but him, then what's the harm in carrying on, just to sort out his own, definitely messed up, feelings on the entire thing. ]
And you know what the worst part it? Even though he's a complete nutter, I still really want to see him again. Guess that makes me the crazy one, huh?
[ And what more was there to say, really? ]

Any Questions? Not at the moment!
